The Danish pavilion at HEATEXPO from 26 to 28 November 2024 will offer a variety of innovative solutions and best practices as a source of inspiration and information for municipal utilities in Germany. Numerous presentations will also give participants specific insights into current projects and the associated challenges, solutions and opportunities. HEATEXPO partners include the Danish Board of District Heating (DBDH) and the Trade Council of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, The Trade Council)
Dortmund, 18 November 2024 – The Danish pavilion (Stand 4.B54) will not just be bringing additional international flair to HEATEXPO 2024, it will also be adding value to the show as one of the pioneers in the European move to renewable heating. From 26 to 28 November, Danish representatives from local authorities and from the worlds of business and science will be at Messe Dortmund presenting innovative solutions and technologies for the heating transition.
Best practice from Denmark
Scandinavia, and Denmark in particular, has established itself as a pioneer in the green heating transition. With ambitious targets and a host of successful implementations, the country is showing how sustainable and climate-friendly heating can be. Denmark has banned installation of oil and gas boilers in new buildings since 2013 and is increasingly focussing on zero-emissions heating technologies such as heat pumps. These measures have helped put the country well on its way to achieving its climate targets and establishing fully decarbonised provision of heating supplies.
Visitors to HEATEXPO 2024 will have the opportunity to find out first-hand about the latest developments and technologies, and to make valuable contacts. A key point of focus will be the panel on the conversion to district heating on 26 November, homing in on Denmark's second largest city, Aarhus, whose district heating system is developing rapidly. Where large coal-fired power stations used to belch out smoke, an integrated fourth-generation heating system is being created, relying on a variety of heat sources such as geothermal energy, biomass, seawater heat pumps and smart storage systems. Elsebeth Arendt, Head of Waste and District Heating in Aarhus, will give a comprehensive overview on 26 November of the measures taken and the projects underway in the city. The resulting challenges and opportunities will be discussed together with three other experts from the Danish district heating industry.
Local Government Campus to address urgent issues facing local authorities
At the Local Government Campus, Christian Bjerrum Jørgensen, Energy Attaché of the Royal Danish Embassy in Berlin, Jesper Stræde, Export Sales Manager at Linka Energy A/S, Peter Ritter, Partner and Co-Managing Director at EMD Deutschland GbR, and Lars Bluhm, Regional Sales Manager, Germany/Austria/Switzerland at Advansor, will also discuss project implementation in smaller municipalities and prospects for rural areas in a discussion chaired by Anders Laier. A key point of focus will be the question of how district heating systems have changed over the last ten years and how they are typically structured today. An important aspect here is the use of local heat sources and optimisation of available resources. In Denmark, green district heating systems are widespread in rural communities, with new projects constantly being implemented.
A one-hour showcase on 28 November featuring numerous heating solutions in Denmark will complete the line-up of inspiration from Germany's Nordic neighbour. The topics will include how a city can use its green waste to heat, how widespread use of air heat pumps works using natural refrigerants, and why replacing coal with biomass is equally promising in Denmark and Germany.
Valuable inspiration and a strong partnership
“We're proud to welcome Denmark to HEATEXPO 2024 as one of the countries leading the way in the heating transition. The partnership with the Danish District Heating Association (DBDH) also emphasises the importance of the trade show at European level. It is not without reason that our neighbours to the north were among the top countries visiting the show last year, alongside Austria and the Netherlands. The Danish pavilion will certainly be a highlight of the show, offering valuable insights into the successful strategies and technologies that can help achieve sustainable heating supplies,” said Sabine Loos, Managing Director of Messe Dortmund.
