German Local Government Confederation (DStGB) new partner for Dortmund's HEATEXPO trade show

20. Juli 2023

Heat pump suppliers to present their propositions – focusing on municipal heat planning

The new HEATEXPO trade show is all about sustainable, net zero heat supplies, a key building block in tomorrow's climate and energy policies. The first show which is to be held between 21 and 23 November 2023 will see well-known exhibitors and experts from the worlds of business, politics and science convening at Messe Dortmund to present trade visitors with the latest technologies and solutions to meet the ecological and economic challenges of the move to renewable heating. Among other things, the focus will be on the highly topical and much discussed subject of heat pumps: The show's supporting programme will also feature big-name partners who will be contributing great expertise when it comes to planning where tomorrow's heating is to come from. Those involved will include the German Local Government Confederation (DStGB) which is a new partner to HEATEXPO.

Dortmund, 19 July 2023 – HEATEXPO, the new trade show focusing on tomorrow's heating supplies, will be making its début at Messe Dortmund between 21 and 23 November 2023. Professionals will be able to engage and interact on key topics relating to heat generation and heat supplies, infrastructure and transportation grids, heat services and heat-related digitalisation as well as development and capital investment. This is Germany's first buyer-meets-seller forum for the entire heating sector where the pathway to sustainable heat generation without the use of fossil fuels can be discussed and driven forward.

With this agenda, the show is truly in tune with the times as fundamental decisions are currently being made which set the future course for energy supplies that are sustainable, climate-neutral and economical. Top minds in all sectors of business and in municipalities across the country are being occupied by the plans to amend Germany's Building Energy Act ('GEG') and by the Heat Planning Act that is currently under discussion. Accordingly, there is a great need for discussion among municipal decision-makers, energy suppliers, industrial businesses and planners about the consequences and about potentially sustainable, legally compliant solutions. The supporting programme accompanying the show will provide further inspiration for dialogue and interaction as acknowledged experts deliver highly topical contributions on the subject.

German Local Government Confederation to assist with the new show

Such experts will include representatives of the German Local Government Confederation ('DStGB') which the show's organisers have succeeded in securing as another expert partner for the very first HEATEXPO. DStGB is an independent organisation at federal and EU level representing the interests of German cities, municipalities and local government districts. Around 11,000 large, small and medium-sized municipalities are grouped into a total of 17 member associations. Because municipalities are being faced, among other things, with having to set out how they intend to convert their heating infrastructures to be climate-neutral when the new regulations come into force, the DStGB experts have been dealing in-depth with early-stage municipal planning activities for heat supplies. They will be presenting the results of their work as part of the HEATEXPO supporting programme, providing a perfect complement to the contributions of the other partners, including the Municipal Enterprises Association (VKU) and the German Urban Municipalities' Convention (Deutscher Städtetag), and making the programme highly attractive.

Dr Gerd Landsberg, Chief Executive of the DStGB, emphasises the role of municipalities in the move to renewable heating: “Cities and municipalities have a key role to play in the necessary move to renewable heating because, along with industry, they are one of the largest consumers of energy. This and the expected general legal framework pose a variety of challenges. We want to use our presence at HEATEXPO to help promote engagement between decision-makers in the worlds of politics, business and science, enabling solutions to be found that are workable for all parties involved. We welcome the fact that there is a new platform such as HEATEXPO, which we are happy to support as a partner.”

Famous-name exhibitors at the venue in Dortmund

In addition to an extensive range of information on municipal heat planning, HEATEXPO will also feature numerous well-known exhibitors presenting their new products and services to a broad target audience of decision-makers. One topic of particular relevance as part of the move to renewable heating and as part of municipal heat planning activities is that of the heat pump. High economic efficiency, low operating costs and low emissions are just some of the benefits this technology brings. To name but some, manufacturers such as Sustainable Process Heat (SPH) from Overath, Energieanlagen Greifswald GmbH, ENGIE Refrigeration, Japanese conglomerate Toshiba and REMKO GmbH & Co KG will be in Dortmund to present the latest developments to visitors.
